RS 00205.300 What is Full-Time Attendance (FTA)

A. Policy - general

A student is in FTA if they are attending an elementary or secondary level school (an educational institution (EI)), as defined in RS 00205.200, and is meeting both State and Federal standards for FTA, see RS 00205.300B and RS 00205.300C.

B. Policy - State standards

Consider the State requirements met if the school considers the student to be full-time based on the school's standards and practices for day students.

C. Policy - Federal standards

To meet Federal standards, the student must be:

  • Scheduled for attendance at the rate of at least 20 hours per week. When attendance is less than 20 hours per week, see RS 00205.310A;

  • Enrolled in a course that is not a correspondence course. If the student is taught in the home by a parent or other teacher who uses course material from a correspondence school, see RS 00205.275; and

  • Enrolled in a course of study that is of at least 13 weeks' duration. For policy on duration of course of study, see RS 00205.315.

NOTE: Summer school attendance must meet the 20-hour per week test. (Regarding the 13-week duration test, see RS 00205.315.)
