RM 10210.100 Advising Applicant on SSN Evidence Requirements

When an applicant does not have the required evidence at the time of the SSN application, advise the following:

  • emphasize that we cannot process the application until all evidence requirements are met;

  • advise him or her to submit all of the documents and the SS-5 at the same time;

  • do not insist that documents be mailed if the applicant is reluctant to do so;

  • suggest that any applicant who is reluctant to mail documents and all applicants with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) documents as evidence of lawful alien status bring their documents to the FO; and

  • if pertinent, provide the source and fee for birth, death, divorce, and marriage records provided in GN 00308.001.
