The SSA-L8100-U2 tells the recipient about a change in SSI eligibility or payment amount that only affects a past month. A change in SSI payment for any retroactive month may be an increase and/or decrease. The SSA-L8100-U2 tells the recipient of his/her right to appeal by requesting a hearing.

In cases involving computer matching, follow instructions in SI 02310.005D. Suppress the automated SSA-L8100 and Notice of Overpayment and issue a manual Notice of Overpayment with the language in SI 02310.005D.4.

The system generates an SSA-L8100 for most events that only affect a past month.

For manual notices, a past month is any month before and including the month in which you mail the notice.
