Federal, State, and local governments are involved in a number of programs which provide assistance (cash or in-kind goods and services) to SSI recipients. For SSI purposes, treatment of this assistance will vary depending on the nature of the program and the payment. Sections SI 00830.170, SI 00830.175, and SI 00830.180 provide guidelines for determining the nature of these programs and the income, if any, to charge when program-specific instructions do not exist elsewhere.
