NL 00725.005 Modernized Claims Systems (MCS) Universal Text Identifiers (UTIs)

The UTI is a 6 part alpha/numeric code which identifies the specific text MCS selects for a part of the notice. The parts are a heading, captions, paragraphs, a signature, addresses and enclosures.

MCS uses UTI's to compose, format and sequence the notice. (See NL 00725.003 for information on how MCS creates notices.) The 1st three characters are alphabetical, the 4th is alphabetical or numeric, and the last 2 are numeric. The parts of the UTI consist of:

  · Positions 1-3 describe the subject matter of the paragraph or other part of the notice.

Example: SEIRO2 is the Universal Text Identifier (UTI) for a paragraph about self-employment income.

  · Position 4 describes the type of paragraph or other part of the notice. The codes are:

  - H = a notice heading MCS automatically generates

• •

  - C = a caption MCS automatically generates

• •

  - R = an FO/PC requested paragraph with fill-ins

• •

  - D = an FO/PC dictated paragraph

• •

  - S = a signature line MCS automatically generates

• •

  - I = introductory paragraph MCS automatically generates

• •

  - 0/8 = a paragraph MCS automatically generates

Example: SEI R02 is the Universal Text Identifier (UTI) for a paragraph which the FO/PC must request.

Positions 5-6 describe a paragraph or other part of the notice by number and helps MCS place it in the proper order in the notice.
